Mukesh Kayastha, who was injured during the 2006 movement, died on Wednesday.
Hira Sharma Nepal, Chairman of the Mukesh Kayastha Foundation, informed that Kayastha passed away at 7:30pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.
Kayastha had been in a vegetative state for the past 17 years after suffering a gunshot wound to his temple on April 9, 2006. He was 14 years old then.
Nepal informed that Kayastha’s funeral rites were performed at Ugratirtha Ghat located in Banepa Municipality-7 on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, Kayastha’s body was kept in Banepa Municipality for final tributes from 11:30am to 2pm.
Federal Health Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet, former Information and Communication Minister Gokul Baskota, Province Assembly lawmaker Kanchan Chandra Bade and others had reached the municipal premises to pay respects to Kayastha.
Likewise, Federal Affairs and General Administration Minister Amanlal Modi also paid tribute to Kayastha on behalf of the government.
