Nepalgunj tense after clash over installing statue of king Birendra

Tensions ran high in Dhamboji chowk in Nepalgunj on Thursday following clashes between the police and a group of people who were trying to place a statue of late king Birendra Shah in the square.
The group started pelting stones at the police after the latter stopped them from placing the statue.
Police fired four rounds of tear gas to take the situation under control.
Over a dozen police personnel have been injured in the incident. Of them, four of the injured police personnel have been admitted to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
DSP Madhusudhan Neupane, of the District Police Office, Banke, informed that additional security personnel from the Armed Police Force have been deployed for additional security.
The agitated crowd also vandalised the statue of Setu BK at Setu BK chowk in the city.
