Rastriya Janamorcha quits coalition protesting MCC passage
Party chair Chitra Bahadur KC says compact was passed in a ‘conspiratorial manner’.Post Report
The Rastriya Janamorcha Party has pulled out of the five-party ruling coalition protesting against Sunday’s passage of the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact by parliament.
The party had been objecting to some of the provisions of the $500 million compact which it said undermined Nepal’s sovereignty.
The decision to withdraw from the government was made by a meeting of the party's central secretariat on Monday. The party has one lawmaker in the lower house.
A press statement issued by party chairman Chitra Bahadur KC after the meeting states that the sovereignty and integrity of the country has been jeopardized with the ratification of the US compact in “conspiratorial manner”.
Rastriya Janamorcha lawmaker Durga Paudel was among the four lawmakers who opposed the MCC compact during Sunday’s vote in parliament.
