Organising a press meet in Kathmandu on Sunday, Government Doctors Association of Nepal (GODAN) warned that government doctors would resign en masse and boycott all services except emergency service if the bill was not corrected.
“We are forced to launch stern protests, as the government has failed to pay heed to our demands,” Dr Dipendra Pandey, chairman of GODAN, said.
He said that his organisation would start collecting signatures of government doctors from Monday to request President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Chairman of National Assembly Ganesh Timalsina to put the bill on hold.
Likewise, GODAN said that all government doctors would take leave on Wednesday and come to Kathmandu to submit their resignation on Thursday and boycott all services, except emergency services, on Friday.
GODAN said that doctors’ career prospects would be diminished if they are kept under the jurisdiction of the local government.
“Even patients will not benefit from the skills of the doctors if they are dumped at the local level,” said Pandey.
