Around two dozen adventure lovers took part in ice climbing festival in the Himalayan district Manang for the first time in Nepal.
Twenty international and domestic participants climbed a snow covered cliff during the heavy snowfall this week at Humde, located at an elevation of 3,200 metres in the central Himalaya.
A total of 2o participants from US, China, India and Nepal climbed the frozen waterfall on the Annapurna region.
The Nepal Climbing team organised the festival in a bid to promote winter tourism from February 4. The festival was concluded by organising a programme in Kathmandu.
Ice climbing involves techniques utilised in rock climbing such as leading and belaying and rope systems. Ice climbing is normally done on waterfalls, rocky ledges and cliffs covered in frozen water flows.
The objective of the festival is also to spread awareness about climate change and promote Visit Nepal 2020 with a new adventure product.
