The Province 3 Assembly on Tuesday postponed a meeting scheduled to discuss the provincial capital until further notice.
Province 3 Speaker Sanu Kumar Shrestha said the meeting had been postponed until further notice citing a political matter. “We are trying to move on to the process only after forging consensus,” he said.
On Saturday, the assembly had held talks with political parties in a ‘last-ditch effort’ to forge a consensus on provincial capital. But the Business Advisory Committee meeting has again deferred the deliberation on the matter.
According to Nepali Congress leader Chhiring Dorje Lama, Speaker Shrestha said the next meeting would finalise the capital of the province at any cost.
Echosing Shrestha, Province’s Chief Minister Dormani Paudel said the issue of provincial capital would be resolved “very soon”. Lawmakers had tabled different proposals in favour of Kavre, Nuwakot and Bhaktapur as the provincial headquarters.
Meanwhile, five different bills presented at the assembly meeting on Monday were passed during a meeting on Tuesday.
According to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat, bills on fund to carry out provincial works, registration of organisations, media management, establishment and operation of vocational education, and sports development were endorsed in the assembly meeting.
