The construction of Salleri-Surkhe road that links the Everest region to the national road networks has come to a halt in recent months.
The track has been opened only up to Nunthala of Solu Dudhkunda Municipality-1 in Solukhumbu district.
Mayor of Solu Dhudhkunda Municipality Namgeljabung Sherpa said the construction work stopped due to a shortage of budget.
“We have been informed that the provincial government will allocate budget for the track’s completion,” said Sherpa, adding that the construction work will be resumed after the concerned authority releases the budget.
On the other hand, the construction of 42-kilometre track of Salleri-Juving-Surke road has been completed.
“The local unit has opened the road track from Salleri to Orlanghat in Dhudhkoshi. We are preparing to connect the road to Khumbu region,” said Nimdorji Sherpa, chairperson of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality.
Both Salleri-Surke road and Salleri-Juving-Surke road will connect Khumbu region to motorable roads. This access to road is expected to lower the food price in Khumbu region as tourists and locals will not have to walk for days to reach Salleri.
