Syangja

Mayor of Syangja’s Chapakot Municipality, Shiva Giri and his aide, among other officials were injured when a drunken brawl erupted at a hotel in Kalikot on Saturday night.

The 30-member team of the municipality, who had gone to visit Rara Lake on Thursday, traded blows with another group of domestic tourists from Bhaktapur. Both the groups were staying at the same hotel last night.

Kalikot Chief District Officer Chandra Prasad Karki said members of both the teams were heavily drunk and fought while grilling mountain goat at around 2 am. The brawl ensued after the inebriated travellers started hurling rude remarks at each other.

Chapakot Municipality mayor Giri, his personal aide Raj Kumar Malla, Municipal Police In-charge Shovit Thapa, driver Sunik SK were among the injured in the brawl. Mayor Giri needed five stitches in his head, CDO Karki said.

The injured were taken to a hospital while others involved in the clash have been kept at district police custody.

CDO Karki said they will resolve the issue amicably after recording statements from both the sides.
