Federal parliamentary election should be held before provincial polls: Oli
CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that the federal parliamentary elections should be held before the provincial parliament.CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that the federal parliamentary elections should be held before the provincial parliament.
Speaking to media persons in the Capital after wrapping up his seven-day visit to China’s Tibet, leader Oli said that his party will not raise objection even if the both federal and provincial elections are held at one go. He added that the problem will arise in the implementation of constitution if the election for federal parliament is not held on time.
According to the constitution, both the elections—federal and provincial parliament—should be held within January 21.
“Elections time should not be postponed under any circumstances. If it’s not possible to hold both elections at one time, then the federal parliamentary elections should be held within that time,” said former PM Oli.
Leader Oli further said that discussions over the constitution amendment should be held after the elections as the country is fully focused on the polls at the present.
Referring to the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal, the party which has been saying that it would not take part in the elections until the constitution was amended, the UML chairman said that the RJP-N should not deny the Republican system by raising minor issues.
Saying that the RJP-N did not participate in the second phase of local level elections due to ruling Nepal Congress, Oli said that the NC is still hatching a conspiracy to keep the RJP-N outside the elections.
Oli was welcomed by Vice-Chairman Bam Dev Gautam and General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel among other leaders.
