‘Indian SSB encroaches on Nepali soil’

The land said to be taken over by the SSB is owned by Sarad Kumari Upadhyay, Harka Bahadur Shahi, Zeenat Siddiqui and Reman Regmi.
The area is located between two boundary posts, 97 and 98, about 42 km southwest of Gulariya, the district headquarters.
Upadhyay said the SSB personnel had been barring her from growing crops on her property.
Chief District Officer Bishnu Bahadur Thapa said the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had been informed about the dispute at the border.
A team led by Thapa had inspected the area following the complaints from the land owners.
A joint team from the two countries will settle the dispute, he said.
Around 80 km of the Nepal-India border falls in Bardiya district. Reports about the Indian side encroaching the boundary and harassing the Nepali locals in Bardiya has increased in the recent times.
On March 30, the SSB personnel had entered the Nepali soil and threatened
the locals who were constructing fences against wild elephants.
