Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav has remarked that the agitating Madhes-based parties will not accept the constitution unless it is amended to address the grievances of Madhesi community.
"This constitution is erroneous," he said, "The demarcation of federal states in the constitution is not acceptable to us."
Talking to journalist at Mahottari district headquarters Jaleshwor on Sunday, leader Yadav reiterated that the Madhesi Morcha—an alliance of agitating Madhes-centric parties—is firm on its position of amending the constitution.
He opined that there are still chances the constitution could be acceptable to them provided that its discriminatory clauses against Madhesis—as asserted by the Morcha—were eliminated through amendment.
"We have raised voices to improve the constitution through amendment," said Chairman Yadav, "If they are not to be addressed, we will resort to protest to scrap the new statute."
Putting forth his view on elections, Yadav said none of the elections will be meaningful if conducted under the status quo. He went on to blame Nepali Congress and communist parties for the current political instability in the country.
Asked why Madhesi parties participated in the parliamentary voting to elect CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as prime minister under current Congress-Communist coalition government, leader Yadav said , "That was our political strategy."
