A massive fire broke out at an eight-storey commercial building in main market of Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-1 in Sunsari district on Thursday. The fire destroyed property worth estimated Rs 1 billion.
A massive fire broke out at an eight-storey commercial building in main market of Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-1 in Sunsari district on Thursday. The fire destroyed property worth estimated Rs 1 billion.
The fire that broke out around 5 pm due to a short circuit burnt down as many as 100 retail shops and goods, according to Police.
The fire brigade from Itahari, Dharan, Biratnagar and Inaruwa rushed to the incident to douse the fire. Since the market remains close in Itahari today, no human casualties have been reported in the incident, the police said.
Security forces from Nepali Army, Armed Police force and Nepal Police have been trying to prevent the inferno from catching the neighboring houses. The goods stored in the shops nearing the fire-trodden commercial building are being shifted elsewhere.
Public in thousands of number have gathered around the venue.
