Nepali Congress (NC) central member Sujata Koirala has said that it will be a mistake on part of incumbent party President Sushil Koirala if he vies for the party presidency in the upcoming 13th general convention.

She was quick to add that Sushil would support her candidacy for the top post.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Press Union Nepal in the district on Sunday, Sujata suggested that the NC troika—Sushil Koirala, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Ram Chandra Poudel—should pass on the leadership baton to the young generation. 

“The new generation should lead the party now. The grand old party will be weakened unless it is lead by the youths,” said Sujata, daughter of the late Girija Prasad Koirala.

Stating that the party activists have suggested her to contest the party presidency during her visit in several districts, Sujata said she would file her candidacy from Biratnagar next month. The 13th general convention would transform the party and develop a collective leadership, she said.
