The family made the claim after learning about Japanese man Sakari Momoi, who was identified as the oldest living person by Guinness World Record until his death on July 5 at the age of 112 years and 150 days. Lamichhane’s date of birth, according to her citizenship certificate, is circa March, 1903 (Chaitra 10, 1959 BS). After Momoi’s death, another Japanese man Yasutaro Koide, currently 112-years-and-121-days-old, holds the official record.
Supercentenarian Lamichhane, who was born in Giranchaur, Sindhupalchok, is healthy for her age and
can move around without any support so much so that she herself scythes grass around her house.
She has witnessed the deaths of her son and two daughters and currently lives with her only surviving son Netra Prasad. She has no problem in her hearing,
sight and movement, Netra Prasad, who is himself 76-year-old, said.
Lamichhane remembers the earthquake of 1934. She was 30 then and had gone to collect grass. But she said she did not feel the April 25 earthquake as she was sleeping at the time. She said she has cast her vote in all elections after she came of age from the Panchayat era and multiparty system to more recently in the two Constituent Assembly elections.
