Students throng Beijing Edu Fair
The Beijing Education Fair 2014, which was held in the capital on Thursday, received overwhelming participation of students and educators alike.
More than 1,000 visitors gathered information regarding the Chinese education system and scholarship prospect for higher studies in the fair held at Hotel De L’ Annapurna, Durbarmarg. Over a dozen reputed high schools and universities from the Chinese capital Beijing participated in the event jointly organised by the Beijing International Education Exchange Center, Chinese Embassy in Nepal and Nepal China Cultural and Education Council (NCCEC). The event inaugurated jointly by Education Minister Chitra Lekha Yadav, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai and Chairman of NCCEC
Harish Chandra Shah was attended by leaders from various political parties, representatives from private education providers apart from students and their guardians.
Addressing the inaugural session, Minister Yadav said such fair provide students with opportunities to learn about the academic excellence China has achieved and find their prospect to study there.
She also thanked the Chinese government for providing dozens of scholarships for Nepali students to study in China for free. Currently, some 3,000 students are studying in various Chinese universities, which is a popular destination for Nepali students for medical education.
Also addressing the session, Ambassador Wu said that Nepal and China have long been sharing close cultural, education and students exchange programmes between the two countries. He said the Nepali students who go to China work as the “cultural ambassador” for their homeland while the same is true for Chinese students coming to Nepal.
According to Shah, the main motive for the fair is to introduce Nepali students with the progress China has made in the education sector and help them to apply in the Chinese academic institutions.
