Fonepay credit card broadens payment
Usage of the Fonepay Credit Card has been recorded across all 77 districts of Nepal.Post Report
Fonepay has introduced the Fonepay Credit Card, a fully digital credit card designed for seamless QR-based payments. The Fonepay Credit Card has now crossed over 20,000 users, according to the company. This milestone is notable in the context of Nepal’s overall credit card market, where fewer than 320,000 physical credit cards are in circulation as of mid-2025.
Usage of the Fonepay Credit Card has been recorded across all 77 districts of Nepal, demonstrating its nationwide reach and acceptance, with Kathmandu emerging as the highest-transacting district, followed by Kaski, company statistics show.
Unlike traditional POS-based credit cards, which are limited to fewer than 50,000 terminals, mostly concentrated in large malls and major brands, the Fonepay Credit Card operates on Nepal’s largest interoperable QR network, giving users access to over 1.8 million merchants, from local stores to major brands.
With increased spending capacity through credit, even small kirana stores and local shops can now tap into a wider market and boost sales, making credit acceptance a growth driver for businesses of all sizes.
Integrated within partner banking apps of bank and financial institutions including Citizens Bank International, Kumari Bank, Siddhartha Bank, Laxmi Sunrise Bank, Everest Bank, Garima Bikas Bank, Shine Resunga Development Bank, Mahalaxmi Bikas Bank, and Manjushree Finance, the Fonepay Credit Card offers enhanced security and real-time transaction visibility, the company claims.
