The newly constructed bridge over Dudhkoshi River that links Okhaldhunga and Khotang districts on the Mid-Hill Highway came into operation on Friday. It took eight years for the construction to complete.
The bridge at Jayaramghat was informally inaugurated by Harkapur Road Division Office Chief Ishwor Rijal. The bridge was inaugurated for the election, Rijal said. Vehicles were allowed to ply on the 150 meter RCC suspension bridge after it was inaugurated.
Residents of Khotang looked overwhelmed as the bridge came into operation on Friday. "Lack of bridge had become a major hindrance for the infrastructural development of Khotang," said a local Sarwadhan Rai, "Although late, but it has finally come into operation. The happiness of Khotang locals cannot be explained."
Harkapur Road Division Office said Rs110 million was spent in the construction of bridge. The bridge was constructed by Kalika Hulas JV.
The construction of the bridge was in the government’s priority list as the Mid-Hill Highway is a national pride project.
