Kamala Rijal wins 1kg gold under Kantipur subscription scheme
Kamala Rijal of Kalanki, Kathmandu, has won 1kg gold worth Rs4.5 million under the Kantipur Swarnapur subscription scheme.
Kamala Rijal of Kalanki, Kathmandu, has won 1kg gold worth Rs4.5 million under the Kantipur Swarnapur subscription scheme.
Rijal, who has been subscribing to the Kantipur daily for the past 15 years, was picked the winner through a lucky draw at the City Centre in Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu, on Friday.
The Kantipur Swarnapur campaign of the Kantipur Media Group started on March 15 for the subscribers of the Kantipur and The Kathmandu Post dailies.
“I felt lucky,” said Rijal, 50. She was preparing tea for her husband and daughter when she got a call from the KMG. Rijal’s husband Dhurbahari Rijal supervises a pharmaceuticals company.
Rijal’s son is pursuing his higher studies in the United States while her daughter is preparing for her MD. “I guess, I will be spending this money for completion of the MD [course] of my daughter Sleshma Rijal,”she said. “I consider myself lucky. Occasionally, I have been winning lotteries, but this one is the grand one in my life,” said Rijal. She shared that she won a television set five years ago in a Dashain lucky draw.
Kathmandu District Administration Office representative Navaraj Dhakal and Inspector Sukadev Khanal witnessed the announcement. The event got colourful with the live performance of Rohit John Chettri and his band. ‘Dui Rupaiya’ actors Nischal Basnet and Ashim Shah also entertained the audience.
