The Australian Embassy in  partnership with Nepal Disabled Women Association organised an interaction on “Inclusive Quality Education: What it meant for girls/women with disabilities” to mark the International Women’s Day in the Capital on Tuesday.

Australian Ambassador Glenn White said, “Education and skill development play crucial roles in the economic empowerment of women which also brings about national economic growth and personal prosperity”.

He added, “Gender equality is central to economic and human development and Australia is committed to be at the forefront of efforts promoting gender equality and empowerment of girls.”

The programme explored multiple challenges that the girls/women with disabilities face regardless of adequate legal provisions such as apathy and unwillingness of their parents towards their education, lack of disabled-friendly infrastructure at schools.  It also highlighted the ways to improve the quality and access to education which can be carried in an inclusive basis.
