Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) Rajendra Chhetri on Sunday reached Panchkhal, Kavre to inspect and examine the pre-deployment training for military forces heading to UN missions.
The training to the army personnel for UN missions—Monusco Mission in Congo and UNMISS Mission in South Sudan—has reached final stage. The training is being carried out at Birendra Peace Operations Training Centre (BPOTC) in Panchkhal.
During the occasion, CoAS Chhetri read out a message from President Bidhya Devi Bhandari who is also the Nepal Army Supreme Commander. President Bhandari, in her message, said that Nepal Army has been successful in upholding Nepal’s dignity and image in the international community through its commitment to maintaining world peace.
In his address at BPOTC, CoAS Chhetri said that Nepal Army has been representing Nepal and Nepali people in world peace missions by deploying its personnel at various war-stricken places in line with Nepal’s foreign policy.
Nepal Army that has contributed to world peace missions for six decades currently has 4,358 personnel deployed at 15 different countries.
CoAS Chhetri also recalled Nepal Army’s effort in search, rescue and relief operations during last year’s devastating earthquake and its participation in constructing numerous temporary shelters for quake victims.
Extending his good wishes to the departing army staffs, CoAS Chhetri instructed them to bear the responsibility given by UN and Nepal Army in line with UN-set guidelines keeping in view the honour and prestige of country, Nepal Army and their respective units.
During the occasion, CoAS Chhetri observed pre-deployment training demonstration and also inaugurated newly constructed quarter guard in Panchkhal
