India has agreed to export additional 10,000 metric tonnes cooking gas to Nepal every month from Paradip Port of Odisha state to meet the shortage of LPG cooking gas in Kathmandu.

While Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOC) fresh proposal has been accepted by Nepal in principle, a final decision will be made within a couple of days, according to officials. India had set up a new refinery in Paradip Port last year. 

 Nepal plans to import the LPG gas within first week of June.  Nepal decided to seek alternatives after the import of gasoline from existing ports fell short of rising demand.

 Secretary at Ministry of Supply Shreedhar Sapkota confirmed that they are doing homework to import gas from India within a month.
