A deadly flu-like disease is rapidly spreading in the southern region of Humla already killing 18 people in the last three weeks.
The local health facilities, meanwhile, do not have medicines to save the patients suffering from the disease yet to be identified by authorities.
Many people in Jair, Rodikot, Raya, Syada, Shreenagar, Kalika, Madana and Maila VDCs are down with symptoms like headache, fever and common cold. But the local health centres do not even have paracetamol tablets with them.
“You don’t get medicines at health centres. Many children and elderly persons are sick and dying in want of treatment,” said Krishna Prasad Jaisi of Rodikot VDC.
Naresh Shrestha, an official at the District Health Office, said though the office released medicines for the health centres in the disease-stricken areas, there was a problem in transportation.
“The problem in transportation has delayed the supply,” he said.
Chief District Officer of Humla Krishna Ghimire claimed that medical teams have already been deployed to the affected villages.
The villagers, however, said that no medical team has reached there so far.
