Talking to journalists at Damak in Jhapa district on Thursday, Sharma said the EC should have the right to announce the election.  Commissioner Sharma said so a day after the government unveiled its annual policies and programme pledging to conduct the local body elections within the next six months.

She welcomed the government’s commitment to conduct local body elections within the next six months as outlined in its annual policy. But she urged the political parties to vest the EC with the right to announce the election.

Commissioner Sharma said the EC has advised the Constituent Assembly to change the current situation of announcing election.  She added the commission is ready to hold the local body election.”The EC can hold any election if it is informed 120 days ahead of the schedule.”
