Officials from the Department of Food Technology Quality Control and Department of Commerce and Supply Management reached Laprak and collected the samples of the rice distributed by WFP to the quake victims.

Lumps of rice which had turned black was distributed in Gorkha while tonnes of pulses unfit for consumption was found in WFP godown in Nepalgunj.

The samples will now be tested in Department of Food Technology Quality Control. “The course of action to be taken against WFP will be known only after the lab reports arrive,” Department of Commerce and Supply Management director Shambhu Koirala said. Lab reports are likely by Tuesday.

Meanwhile, WFP has said that it has already submitted the details of purchase, shipment and distribution of the food items stored in its godowns to the parliamentary probe committee.

Reports about WFP’s reluctance to provide necessary details of food items in its godown had emerged on Monday.

Iolanda Jaquemet, WFP Communications Officer, said that the details were sent to the committee before 5 pm Monday.
