“Others are saying fast track. But i say mere fast track is not enough, let’s go to double fast track,” said the prime minister talking to a delegation of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities at his official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday. He made it clear that the due process would not be bypassed in the name of fast-track. “The process can be shortened but should not be breached,” he said.
PM Koirala reiterated his commitment that he would step down from the PM’s post on the very day the new constitution is announced. “We need to draft the constitution as soon as possible. The parties have become panic–stricken,” said Koirala, “Bring the constitution, i will quit the day it is announced.”
Saying the agreement signed by the big four parties has only formed the outline of the new constitution, Koirala told the indigenous nationalities that the people would not be deprived of the right to discuss the new constitution. He made it clear that the new constitution would ensure identity, culture, outfit, language, and religious freedom.
A team led by NEFIN Chairman Nagendra Kumal also submitted a memorandum to UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
