PAC directs govt to furnish details of relief distribution
Public Accounts Committee of the Legislature-Parliament has directed the government to furnish the details on the relief distributed so far in the earthquake hit districts.

A meeting of the PAC instructed the government today to inform the committee about the status of relief distribution and expenditure made for the same after the lawmakers complained of massive irregularities.
Committee Chairman Janardan Sharma said the committee decided to draw the government's attention, through the High-level Disaster Management Monitoring and Directive Special Committee led by CA chairman Subas Nembang, regarding the policy and legal problems encountered in course of the disaster management.
The committee is also to ask for the report prepared by the National Vigilance Centre and study it in connection with investigating the irregularities said to be committed in connection with the relief distribution.
Likewise, it will ask for the reports on the internal audit carried out by different ministries in that regard.
The committee is also to acquire information from the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, the Department of Buildings and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City on the policy and regulations set by them with regard to compliance of the building code while constructing apartments.
Committee president Sharma said the meeting also urged the government to take necessary initiatives for the strict enforcement of the building code as the tendency of constructing buildings and houses without abiding by the building code has created much problem and also resulted in huge loss of life and property in the aftermath of the deadly earthquake of April 25.
The committee also laid emphasis on the need of government initiatives for effective operation of the tourist destinations not affected by the quake.
