A group of seven stakeholders comprising government engineers conducted study on the hotel’s physical condition, occupancy and situation of the workers and pasted the red sticker to the five star hotel of Kathmandu on Tuesday.
“We found that three pillars were badly damaged, so we put up red sticker on it,” said Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) first Deputy-president Amar Man Shakya.
He added that government engineer of the study team, Poshnath Adhikari decided to paste the red sticker, concluding that the hotel cannot be operated under the current situation of the building.
“The hotel building was given green sticker after inspection following the April 25 earthquake as no major damages were seen then,” said Engineer Adhikari. “But three pillars were found damaged after the May 12 quake.”
The team has directed hotel’s General Manager to vacate the hotel. The hotel operating in one single building is expected to shut down.
Likewise, the team has also put red sticker on an old building of Dhulikhel Lodge Resort. Other three buildings of the Resort are fine, informed Adhikari.
Similarly, a building of Thamel-based Kathmandu Guest House and ‘Hunter Lodge’ inside Gokarna Forest Resort too have got red sticker.
A team comprising government civil engineers, representatives of HAN and National Society for Earthquake Technology (NSET) was formed under Tourism Department to conduct study on the situation of hotels.
