The devastating April 25 earthquake has rendered many Nepali homeless. Many houses have been totally or partially damaged, forcing people to camp out in the open space. Even the people whose houses resisted the earthquake fear to enter their houses due to continuous aftershocks.

Amid such fear, two families in Lalitpur district, whose houses suffered cracks in the earthquake, have found a unique temporary shelter for themselves. Fourteen people from two families have made an old school bus—sold to a local scrap dealer—their home.

According to these people, it is comfortable living in the bus then in the tents. However, living in the old bus has its own woes. “If someone gets off the bus during night, everybody’s sleep gets disturbed,” shares one of the earthquake victims living in the bus.
