Michelle Yeoh helps quake victims
Famed actress Michelle Yeoh is in Nepal to work with Live to Love International’s relief aid operation in the aftermath of the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that devastated the countryto remote parts of the country affected by the calamity. The actress, famed for her performances in movies like The Lady, James Bond: Tomorrow Never Dies and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, is also the global ambassador of the organisation. Yeoh has already donated 100,000 euros for the relief and rehabilitation of the earthquake victims.
She made the donation through the Emergency Action Fund of the Nepal Automobile Sports Association (Nasa).
Established by the Gyalwang Drukpa, who is the spiritual head of the 1000-year-old Drukpa Order, in 2007, Live to Love is a global humanitarian initiative that focuses on different sectors like education, medical services, relief aid, heritage preservation and environmental sustainability.
Apart from providing immediate relief to the affected people, the organisation is working towards constructing prefabricated community halls to house the victims of the quake in Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchok and Ramechhap districts to shelter over 2,000 displaced people. Similarly, the organisation has also stated that it is planning to designs earthquake-proof permanent homes for the victims.
Speaking about the organisation’s priorities right now, Yeoh said, “The first priority is to provide shelter for people before the monsoon season begins. Then, we will involve ourselves in helping to rebuild lives and restore what was lost in this terrible disaster.”
The Gyalwang Drukpa has also made an international appeal for help for the reconstruction of Nepal.
