Boycotting CA is disrespect of people's vote: Sitaula
Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula has claimed that Sushil Koirala-led government would continue until the promulgation of the new constitution.
At a news conference organised by Nepal Press Union, Morang, at Biratnagar on Sunday, Sitaula expressed the view that different political parties including the UCPN (Maoist) have been misinterpreting the term 'consensus'.
He further said that it was necessary to hold discussion among the major political parties after focusing on the issue of constitution writing, saying the new constitution would not be promulgated as per the interest of a single party.
Stating that it was natural to get different opinions among political parties on the issue of federalism, the NC General Secretary said that his party had presented a draft of seven provinces as per people's wish.
Sitaula said, "It is disrespect of people's vote to boycott the Constituent Assembly (CA) as they have been elected to promulgate the new constitution from CA." He clarified that there was no meaning of street agitation instead of taking the preliminary draft prepared after holding discussion in the CA before the people.
Stating that the date determined for the upcoming General Convention of NC would not be changed at any cost, General Secretary Sitaula said otherwise questions would be raised over the credibility of NC. He urged the 30-party alliance led by the UCPN (Maoist) to engage in constitution writing process by withdrawing the protest programme.
