Ranibari murder case: 2 accused held after 12 yrs
Police have finally arrested two suspects accused in the murder of a couple that took place at Ranibari, Kathmandu 12 years ago.Ekantipur Report
The accused duo faces the charges of killing Engineer Hemant Shrestha and his wife Anjali Shrestha on July 15, 2002. The couple was hacked to death in their rented apartment in Ranibari.
The arrestees, identified as Manraj Gurung, of Dolakha, and Pramesh Chauhan, of Ramechhap, will be made public amid a press conference.
According to police, the duo, hired to kill the owner of the house Rita Khadka, ended up killing the engineer couple. However, Khadka, a foreign employment agent, managed to survive by hiding in the toilet.
Police said the murder was a contract killing and the accused were paid Rs 200,000 to execute the plot. But the police have yet to reach the mastermind of the plot. The incident was becoming a challenge for the police.
The incident was investigated by Central Investigations Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police. The CIB had recently arrested the accused in the murder of Supreme Court Justice Rana Bahadur Bam.
