The Constitutional Council has initiated majority process to nominate names for the appointment of officials at Public Service Commission.

A meeting of the Constitutional Council on Tuesday agreed to recommend names through majority in its next meeting slated for Thursday after failing to pick unanimous candidates from the proposed names for appointment in the PSC.
“The council meeting could not agree on unanimous candidates for appointment to the officer bearers of the Public Service Commission despite intense discussions,” said House Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang, who is also a member of the Constitutional Council after the meeting. “But there has been an agreement to make recommendations according to the existing law,” he added.
Today’s meeting failed to take a unanimous decision after UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal reiterated his stance that incumbent Chairperson of Public Service Commission, Kaya Devi Yami, be retained in the post, while Prime Minister Sushil Koirala proposed former secretary Umesh Prasad Mainali for the post.
“I proposed retaining the incumbent chairperson in the post but the prime minister put forth another proposal,” said Dahal.
Yami had been appointed as the PSC chairperson on February 16, 2009, by Dahal led government.
