Raut was detained from Pipara VDC while he was on his way to Jaleshwor to attend a programme convened by district committee of the campaign.

However, the administration said Raut was held in view of his security concerns. Chief District Officer Kiran Thapa claims that Raut was in fact provided security by detaining him.

“We took him under control after noticing the security threat,” CDO Thapa said,” We took him into custody after receiving information about security threats to him. But it has been misinterpreted.”

According to sources, Raut was arrested by the decision of district security committee after receiving sudden information from Home Ministry.

Massive security personnel were mobilised at Jaleshwor after the cadres and supporters of Raut protested the arrest.

The campaign’s local leaders Suresh Pandey, Komal Yadav, Gajendra Gupta, Sanjay Shah, among others, reacted to the Raut’s arrest saying that his arrest was against the constitutional rights to freedom of speech and expression. They have been demanding immediate release of their leader Raut.

Earlier in September, Raut, was arrested on the charge of sedition, and later released in November, after he deposited a bail of Rs 50,000.
