Actor Shrestha cremated with state honours
The body of Nepali cine artist Shree Krishna Shrestha was cremated with state honours at Pashupati Aryaghhat on Monday. Shrestha passed away during treatment in New Delhi on Sunday.Ekantipur Report
Actor Shrestha's body was brought from India this afternoon.
As per the funeral programme schedule, Shrestha's body was taken to Nepal Academy Hall for final tributes but the body could not be kept there because of large number of his fans and well wishers who thronged to offer their last respect to the late cine actor.
Information Minister Minendra Rijal, Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC, CPN-UML leaders Keshav Badal and Amrit Bohora, UCPN (Maoist) leaders Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Agni Prasad Sapkota, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana, and Actor Rajesh Hamal among other artists, family members, relatives and well-wishers were present at the Academy Hall to pay tribute to the late actor.
Shrestha’s funeral cortege started from TIA and passed through Tinkune, Naya Baneshwor and Maitighar before arriving at the Academy. His body was taken to Pashupati Aryaghat where he was cremated with full state honour late Monday evening.
The plane landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu at 2:00 in the afternoon. Relatives and fans reached the TIA to attend the body procession.
Shrestha, 47, passed away while undergoing treatment at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the Indian Capital for pneumonia. He was declared dead at around 5 in the morning. Shrestha had married actress Sweta Khadka just a month ago.
The latest film by the newly married couple Shrestha and Khadka titled 'Kohinoor' is currently being screened across the country. It was released last Friday.
Shrestha made his debut in film industry with the movie 'Bhumari' 25 years ago.
Popular for his dancing and acting skills, Shrestha featured in many successful movies namely Maiti, Aafno Manche, Gorkhali, A Mero Hajur, Sukha Dukha, Kaha Bhetiyela, among others.
