The Nepali Embassy in Kuala Lumpur informed that the 35 Nepalis were stuck in Melaka- based ‘returnee camp’ due to the unavailability of tickets after serving their time in prison.
They were returned to Nepal via Nepal Airlines on Saturday.
Issuing a press statement, the embassy said the Nepalis were rescued from the camp after receiving Rs 2 million from the Foreign Employment Promotion Board.
“The amount received from the foreign employment board will be utilised in rescuing the other 135 Nepalis at the returnee camp. Priority will be given to those with poor economic condition,” Nepal’s Ambassador to Malaysia Niranjan Man Singh Basnyat said.
The press statement further mentions that 35 more Nepalis would be sent back home from Lenging Camp on June 29. The Nepali Mission in Malaysia also offered its gratitude to all the government and non-governmental organisations for their assistance.
This is the first time the government has rescued Nepalis in such large numbers by providing the necessary amount required to free migrants.
