SSP Uttam Karki, acting chief of the Central Investigation Bureau, will replace Kharel. According to sources, the transfer will be announced with consent from the Election Commission on Tuesday.

Many senior Deputy Inspector Generals had sought action against SSP Kharel for his allegation on Saturday that the DIGs had been approaching “power centres with briefcases” seeking promotion to Assistant Inspector Generals. Seven AIG positions have been lying vacant for seven months.

A three-member committee was formed under DIG Bigyan Raj Sharma citing that Kharel broke the organisational chain of command by speaking against his seniors. The committee has got a week to present its report after studying Kharel’s remarks. Kharel has often earned accolades for his bold acts.
