Sharma sworn in as CJ

President Ram Baran Yadav administered oath to CJ Sharma after the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee's (PHSC) approved him for the post of chief justice .
According to the constitutional provision, the president appoints the chief justice after the parliamentary hearing approves the name recommended by the Constitutional Council (CC).
During the parliamentary hearing conducted on Thursday, UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker gave critical support to Sharma citing unsatisfactory answers by him, while the committee member Chitra Bahadur KC approved Sharma's name for the post. However, Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party (NMKP) remained neutral.
Three complaints including corruption in judiciary and nepotism by Sharma were lodged against Sharma within the given 72-hour deadline after the CC recommended his name for the CJ post.
Sharma became a permanent Justice of the Supreme Court in 2064 BS.
Sharma was the acting chief justice after then CJ Khil Raj Regmi assumed the role of the Chairman of the Interim Election Government. Regmi later resigned from the post of CJ after handing over the executive reins to the elected government.
