A five-member special bench headed by Justice Kalyan Shrestha issued the order. Petitioners including AIG Madan Bahadur Khadka had moved the court in 2012 seeking stay order on the 30-year provision of the Nepal Police Regulations. According to the rule, one in police service retires after serving a term of 30 years or reaching the age limit.
Police officials, requesting anonymity, welcomed the decision saying that the government can amend the regulations as it wants but only parliament can amend the Act. “This will mean stability in the police force.”
