The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has directed all the private schools running within the metropolis to pay their teachers and other staff as per the salary range set by the government.
Mayor Balendra Shah took to his Facebook page on Thursday to draw the attention of the private schools after receiving several complaints on the issue.
“We have received multiple complaints that teachers in private institutions are being paid lower than those in community schools,” Shah wrote on social media. “However, section 12(7)(g) of the Education Act, 1971 states that teachers in private schools should be paid, without reducing the salary range under any pretext, as set by the government.”
Shah further added that Rule 68 under KMC’s School Education Management Regulation, 2017 mentions that pensions, incentives, basic facilities and other allowances should be provided to the teaching and non-teaching staff, without any reductions.
Shah urged the teachers and other staff to reach out to the metropolis’ education department if they are not provided with salary and other perks based on the aforementioned laws.
