Nepal’s Covid-19 toll reaches 2,767
With 112 new infections recorded in the past 24 hours, the active case count stands at 882, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.Post Report
The Ministry of Health and Population on Thursday confirmed an additional 83 deaths due to the coronavirus disease, 82 of which had been unreported to the ministry before.
The latest figure puts the country’s Covid-19 death toll to 2,767.
While one person died of the disease in the past 24 hours, 82 other deaths had not been updated in the ministry’s system.
On Wednesday, the ministry had reported 618 deaths that it had not taken account of earlier and one new death due to Covid-19.
“We found that the data of people who had died at home due to the coronavirus infection had not been included in the ministry’s records. They, however, were included in the Covid-19 Crisis Management Center’s system,” Dr Jageshwor Gautam, the ministry’s spokesperson, had told the Post on Wednesday. “We formed a committee to study the differences in the data and have made adjustments as per its suggestions.”
Those people died before November at their homes and their bodies were managed by the Army, according to Gautam.
Meanwhile, the country also recorded 112 new cases on Thursday. With this, the overall infection tally has reached 273,872 with 882 active cases.
According to the Health Ministry, 270,223 infected people have recovered from the disease so far, 84 of them in the past 24 hours.
As of Thursday, 2,153,636 PCR tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 3,411 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the data released by the ministry.
On Wednesday, Nepal had reported 94 new infections as well. Similarly, four Covid-19 fatalities and 110 new infections were recorded in the country on Tuesday and 125 new cases on Monday.
