Vehicular movement has been obstructed along the Mahendra Highway after a diversion in Thumsi of Gaidakot was swept away by floods on Thursday.
Serpentine line of passenger buses and cargo trucks among other vehicles have queued for around 20 km on either side of the obstructed section. More incoming vehicles are piling up by the minute, according to police.
District Police Office Information Officer Dilip Giri informed that efforts are being directed at clearance for small and passenger vehicles first through the traffic choke.
“Although a temporary diversion has been built to resume vehicular movement, we will have to bring in dozers to rescue vehicles stuck in the muddy track,” said Giri.
With vehicles still pouring in from either side of the obstructed section, the traffic in the area is caught in a tightening gridlock. Those who live nearby are walking towards their destinations while the rest are lying in wait for the traffic to resume.
