World Day of Theatre for Children marked

The World Day of Theatre for Children, a campaign spearheaded by ASSITEJ (International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People), which falls every year on March 20, was celebrated in the world across with the slogan “Take a child to the theatre, today.”
In Nepal too, a group of organisations working at theatre including Let’s Entertainment, Mandala Theatre, Theatre Centre for Children, Theatre Mall and ASSITEJ Nepal jointly organised a staging of the drama Mandragora Circo and a series of workshops targeted for children.
The play Mandragora Circo is a non-verbal performance put together by two Argentine artists who throughout the performance don as clowns The comedy show tells the story through mime and pantomimes only. The performance also features circus stunts, music and unconventional instruments, prompting the audience to imagine situations, conflicts and their solutions. The troupe comprises of three Argentine artists—Mariana Silva, Juan Cruz Bracamonte and Andrea Díaz.
The show is put together by the Mandragora Circo theatre group from Argentina, which over the past eight years has performed in 42 countries.
Mandragora Circo’s Nepal tour started on March 10 and is slated to run through March 23, over the course of which the group is travelling to cities such as Birtamode, Kathmandu and Biratnagar.
As part of World Day of Theatre for Children the play was staged across several schools around the Valley.
Moreover, the Theatre Mall in collaboration with Theatre Centre for Children is organising the fourth iteration of a workshop targetted for children, going to start on April 2; the workshop will run for fifteen days.
