Commemorating a year of the big catastrophe, 13 agencies from the UN have highlighted their work, from relief to recovery in the aftermath of the earthquakes, in the photographs. The programme was inaugurated by Sushil Gyawali, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA). Gyawali was joined by Tomoo Hozumi, Representative for UNICEF Nepal and Bikash Karki, head of Nepal’s Photojournalists Club.
The exhibition is a five-day long programme starting from April 19 to April 24, 10 am to 5 pm. The photos have been accumulated by Laxmi Ngakhusi, Prakash Mathema and other photojournalists around Nepal. The images consist of women and children receiving medical care to widespread debris removal by the volunteers. In addition, the effortless contribution made by UN Nepal is clearly vivid in the photographs. “Following the biggest earthquake Nepal has seen in recent times, I am thankful to UN Nepal for giving the country massive support in a time of agony,” said Sushil Gyawali, CEO of NRA.
“This photo exhibition captures images from the UN response in Nepal in the aftermath of the country’s worst natural disaster,” said Craig Sanders, acting Resident Coordinator, “And we are proud to dedicate this to the people of Nepal who have shown amazing courage.”
