Alisha Joshi has bagged the crown at the Miss Newa 1136 pageant which concluded in Pokhara this weekend. Organised by the Newa Khala-Kaski, Joshi piped 18 other contestants to win the crown at a gala event held at the Pokhara City Hall. Along with the crown, Joshi also bagged a cash prize of Rs 40,000.
Pokhara is home to a sizeable Newari diaspora—the descendants of traditional merchants who settled down there. The Lake City, which has evolved to become a melting pot for ethnicities from around the country, boasts similar pageants featuring women of different ethnicities throughout the year.
Miss Newa 1136 is the sixth iteration of the annual pageant and saw 19 contestants from Kaski district partake in a month-long boot camp which concluded with a gala showcase in Pokhara on Saturday evening. At the event Subi Tuladhar and Sandhya Shrestha came in as the first and second runner-up respectively, with each walking away with Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 each.
