Sauram’s rocking zindagi
Sauram Raj Tuladhar is a familiar name in the Nepali modelling scene.
How did you decide to become an actor?
I come from a very filmy family. Everyone is a huge movie buff. They are always watching films and keep doing caricatures. I wanted to act since I was a kid, and my family has always encouraged me to pursue the dream.
And since I don’t have a godfather in the industry, I wouldn’t have made it this far without my family’s support. I started out in 2007 and I’ve had my own share of struggles. It was modelling in the beginning, then advertisements and music videos. Finally, it’s films.
What are your interests apart from acting?
I watch a lot of movies. I also like to get on my motorbike and go for long rides. I’m a foodie and I like to try out different cuisines. I love sports too—both indoor and outdoor. I used to play a lot of cricket and basketball, but haven’t been able to take time out for them lately. So I’m mostly playing games on the computer now. I also have a keen interest in event management, and do it occasionally.
What kinds of films do you like to watch?
I like to watch sci-fi and love stories. I decide what to watch through trailers, mostly. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are my all-time favourite actors, so I try not to miss their films.
You said you are a foodie. What do you like to eat the most?
I love trying out different kinds of dishes and since I’m only an average cook, I don’t complain much about what is being served to me. I like Japanese and Mexican food the most. While experimenting with food, sometimes you have bad experiences as well. I had heard a lot about Vietnamese food and decided to give it a try, but I didn’t like it at all.
Is there any place you really want to go to?
I’m very fond of travelling, so I want to go to Mustang and other areas in the Himalayan region on my bike. Outside of Nepal, I want to visit Austria and Hawaii as I want to experience the culture and see the scenery there.
What kinds of roles do you want to do in the future? Any actor you want to work with?
I want to do well-scripted films and want to try playing different kinds of roles. My first movie is a rom-com, but now I want to do action and romantic features. I really want to work with Dayahang Rai. I think he is an exceptionally good actor and does all his roles brilliantly.
Are you tech-savvy?
I like to keep updating my gadgets, but it is not possible to do that every time. The cell phone is one such gadget I cannot do without. Even when I don’t get to buy something new, I like to know what’s happening in the world of technology and the kinds of gadgets are coming out in the market.
Any memorable incidents you’d like to share with us?
While shooting for “Zindagi Rocks”, we had to do a rafting scene. Akesha (Bista) had not done it before, so she was quite apprehensive about it. Since it wasn’t my first time, I was excited and kept telling Akesha that I would hold her in case she fell and that we could even use the sequence for the movie. I was so overconfident regarding the entire thing that, in the end, I was the one who fell into the river.
Are you conscious about fashion and brands?
I’m not very conscious about brands, but I try my best to look presentable. I wear anything that suits me and is comfortable. I’m not at all conscious about where a product is being sold. As long as it is good quality material, I don’t mind. But Quiksilver is one brand I really like and look out for.
Are you superstitious?
I am superstitious to some extent and believe in fortune. I don’t have any lucky charm as such, but I do pujas and worship god. I don’t really know how much worshipping helps your luck, but it certainly gives you peace of mind.
Is there anything you are scared of?
I always feel that time is moving too quickly. There are so many things to be done, and sometimes, I get scared that the limited time will stop me from achieving my life goals.
Is there anything you’d like to change about yourself?
I tend to lose my temper quickly, and for no reason. If given a chance, I would definitely like to change this habit of mine.
Finally, if not an actor, what would you have become?
I would have become a businessman in case I had not have been in this industry. Most probably, I would have been abroad by now.
