Overnight flooding triggered by torrential rain inundated the Radha Soami Satsang Beas holding centre in Kirtipur, leaving displaced informal settlers sheltering there scrambling to recover their belongings.
Floodwaters entered the rooms inside the centre, submerging clothes, household supplies and other essentials.

According to Girbanika Thapa, a resident at the holding centre, the water had risen above knee level, leaving people unable to move their belongings to safer places.
The displaced residents appealed for immediate rescue, saying help did not arrive as the floodwaters swept through the shelter.

Security personnel later used boats inside the flooded compound to retrieve belongings.
Most residents were unable to save their possessions and clothes when the flood entered the shelter overnight. Some could not even recover their medicines. Security personnel arrived only after 2 am.
