Private school operators protest against School Education Bill provisions
Members of private schools’ associations march in Kathmandu, demanding withdrawal of scholarship and non-profit provisions.
Post Report
Private school operators staged a protest in Kathmandu on Monday against proposed provisions in the School Education Bill.
Members of the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal (PABSON), the National Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal (N-PABSON) and the Higher Institutions and Secondary Schools’ Association Nepal (HISSAN), among others, marched from Maitighar Mandal to New Baneshwar.
They have objected to the mandatory full-scholarship requirement and the provision that private schools would gradually transition into non-profit entities. Though such a conversion is not binding, private school operators want it revoked. The groups have warned of shutting down schools if their demands are not addressed.
Here are some photos of the protest taken by the Post’s photojournalist Hemanta Shrestha.
