Bagmati River, highly regarded internationally for its religious and cultural values, now bears the scars of the city’s waste crisis, with its banks littered with garbage.
The recent floods, triggered by heavy rains last Friday and Saturday, swept the city’s garbage straight into the river. Metal fencing, walls, and trees along the banks have caught the waste, with plastic and discarded clothing entangled in the debris.
The aftermath has left the riverbanks foul-smelling. Despite the visible pollution, no organised clean-up efforts have been initiated yet.
