One million doses of Covishield vaccines produced by the Serum Institute of India arrived on Sunday.

The consignment is part of the two million doses of vaccine for which the government signed a procurement deal with the manufacturer on Wednesday.

The vaccines arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon on a regular Air India flight.

According to the Ministry of Health, with the new lot of vaccines, the government will launch the second phase of vaccination drive on March 7 to inoculate people above 55 years of age.

Nepal launched its vaccination drive on January 27 with the one million doses of vaccine the government had received on January 21 from India under grant assistance.
