Clashes broke out between security forces and supporters of the monarchy who had taken a rally in Kathmandu on the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti on Monday.

Hundreds of people gathered in front of Singha Durbar to pay tribute at the statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah in front of Singha Durbar to mark the 299th birth anniversary of the late king.

The dispute erupted when the police stopped the rally while they were heading toward the statue to place garlands on it as it is a restricted area.

Some protestors were injured in the clashes.

Carrying the national flag and pictures of Prithvi Narayan Shah, the protestors demanded the establishment of a Hindu nation and monarchy.
